FAQs

There is a yoga class for everyone, but where you start has as much to do with your yoga goals and mindset, as it does your physical abilities.

Zen • great for beginners that seek rest, relaxation, and possibly need to force themselves to slow down. This class moves slow—utilizing gentle transitions between poses and passive stretches. It intends to decrease heart rate to support a healthy nervous system, and is easy to follow.

Awaken1 • designed for the beginner that has a movement foundation and seeks to build or maintain strength and flexibility. This class moves at a moderate pace—utilizing more traditional standing poses. It intends to slightly increase your heart rate, and is taught with easy-to-follow cues to learn a more active, vinyasa-style practice. 

Power • designed for the type-A-beginner that has difficulty slowing down and likes a challenge. This class moves at a rigorous pace, in a heated room. It is physically demanding and you can expect increased heart rate, sweat, and a sense of empowerment upon completion.

Ignite Yoga has five unique class styles that incorporate various yoga methodologies to create a well-rounded practice. All of our classes are vinyasa-based—meaning you will move smoothly from pose-to-pose for at least 50% of the practice. If you’re seeking a specific type of yoga, please see which styles inspire our classes below.  

Meditate • incorporates guidance through mantra or visual meditation, silence, and possibly breathwork 

Zen • incorporates gentle vinayasa, yin or longer stretches, restorative yoga, breathing practices, and meditation

Awaken1 • incorporates slow to moderate-paced vinyasa utilizing basic traditional yoga poses, gentle vinyasa, and some longer stretches 

Awaken2 • incorporates moderate-paced vinyasa utilizing basic to intermediate traditional yoga poses with an emphasis on muscle contraction and body awareness. Often includes breathwork or pranayama

Power • this is a traditional Power vinyasa practice inspired by the Baptiste Methodology

We suggest the most form fitting clothes you feel comfortable in. Many of our classes ask your head to be below your waist (think forward fold), so a fitted top or tucking your shirt in is recommended to reduce the likelihood of your shirt falling over your head. Additionally, you will not wear shoes in the yoga room and you will practice bare-footed if possible. Socks may be put on toward the end of practice for added warmth as your body cools. 

We recommend bringing a water bottle, hand towel, and your yoga mat to all practices. If you are participating in a Power or heated class, you may like to have a full-sized towel or yogi towel available to place over your mat to prevent slipping. If you are attending an unheated practice, you may enjoy having a long sleeve shirt or socks for extra warmth during savasana.  
If you forget an item or do not have one available, we offer the following rentals for a low fee: 

•yoga mat $2 
•large towel $2
•hand towel $1

There are a few things to be aware of when entering for your practice. 

  • please remove your shoes upon entry. This helps to keep the space clean, your mind clear, and creates immediate grounding prior to practice.
  • silence and leave cell phones in the lobby. Our studio rooms are tech-free zones to allow all students to dive deeper into their practice. You are welcome to use your cell phone in the lobby.
  • silence fitness watches. We’re proud of you for closing your exercise ring, but let’s celebrate after class, shall we?
  • come with a mostly empty stomach. Many yoga poses compress and stimulate the internal organs. A full belly often results in an uncomfortable practice. Nourish yourself while being mindful of your consumption.
  • doors are locked at the beginning of class.  There is no entry once the doors are locked to ensure a distraction-free practice for those in class.
  • place a green chip at the top of your mat for hands-on assists. Many of our instructors provide hands-on assists to bring more awareness to your practice. If you consent to assists, please place a green chip at the top of your mat. If you do not have a chip, you will not receive assists.
