Whether you’re looking to improve your digestion, feel better in your skin, or heal your relationship with food, our nutrition counseling sessions can support your ever growing desire to take care of your health from the inside. Our nutrition counseling draws from two systems and a lifetime of learning to focus on nurturing and balancing the body. When your body is balanced, it knows what it needs. So with the support of our nutritional counselor and guide, Joane Wire, you’ll be encouraged to listen to your body’s signals, eat whole nourishing foods, and move towards healing your body from the inside.
What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda originated in India and translates to “knowledge of life” or “science of life” in Sanskrit. It is a system of health that focuses on healing the whole person—body, mind, soul, and spirit. Using the traditions of Ayurveda, we seek to find the root of the problem focusing on prevention. Together, we will look at the current state of your life and investigate the elemental imbalances of both body and mind. We can then begin to determine the best approach to optimum health. You will start to feel more balanced and maintain quality and longevity of life.
In the Ayurvedic tradition, there are three doshas, or forces that manifest within the body and create your unique constitution. These three doshas are Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, and all of us have specific aspects of each of these doshas, but we have one or two which dominate over the others. Each of the doshas is derived from the five natural elements and represents a unique blend of physical, emotional, and mental characteristics present in every individual.
Ayurveda is one system that inspires our nutrition counseling sessions. In your session, you will answer various questions to determine your dosha dominance, your current habits, and how you can attune to your doshic constitution to know what foods to eat, activities to partake in, and self-care practices to pamper yourself with. Ayurveda has been around for thousands of years and continues to heal individuals across the world.
What is Intuitive Eating?
Intuitive Eating is a framework for eating that encourages self-care and attuning your mind and body to meet your biological and psychological needs. It integrates instinct, emotion, and rational thought to understand the physical sensations that arise in your body and remove the obstacles that prevent you from understanding those sensations.
Intuitive Eating was designed by Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch in 1995 out of a recognition that weight loss is a failed paradigm. The system of Intuitive Eating encourages respect and dignity for every body of every size with the pursuit of honoring both physical and mental health.
The model of Intuitive Eating is a dynamic and personal process that focuses on 10 Principles:
- Reject the Diet Mentality
- Honor Your Hunger
- Make Peace with Food
- Challenge the Food Police
- Respect Your Fullness
- Discover the Satisfaction Factor
- Honor Your Feelings without Using Food
- Respect Your Body
- Exercise—Feel the Difference
- Honor Your Health with Gentle Nutrition
In our nutrition counseling sessions, you will come to understand these 10 principles and explore which principles need more attuning. With support and guidance, you will move towards a healthy relationship with food and your body and discover a new, powerful realm of self-care that includes love and acceptance.
What to expect
During your initial consultation, Joane will ask a series of questions to discover your current temperament, stress response, mind, body, skin, hair, appetite, conversation style, and get an idea of your relationship with food and your body. From there, she will assess which system, Ayurveda, Intuitive Eating, or both, will be most useful in your journey to whole health and well-being.
During your session, we might suggest changing your diet, your sleep schedule, or specific aspects of your routine. We will educate you on foods that provide optimal support for the manifestations you’re experiencing. You’ll be asked questions to help you discover what the next step in your self-care might be. Ayurveda and Intuitive Eating are certainly not restrictive diets, but rather systems that help you improve your well-being and relationship with food as smoothly as possible. A lot of the changes you choose to make will probably be enjoyable or come naturally, as they are born of your true self.

About Joane Wire
m.ed, Ayurvedic Counselor, Intuitive Eating certified
Joane received her masters in education with a focus on nutrition at the University of Cincinnati followed by a rigorous dietetic internship at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, OH. She was a dietitian for 20 years before letting her license to focus more on an intuitive approach to what we eat and why. Her mission has changed from diet culture—a rigid set of rules that tends to tell people what to eat—to helping clients learn to listen to their own cues, and ultimately learn to trust their bodies.
In 1:1 and group sessions, you’ll focus on the relationship with body and food as a partnership. My aim is to gently guide my clients back to a positive, healthy relationship with themselves through meditation, body awareness, and journaling.
